Learn more about our veterinary services.

We are a small animal veterinary practice primarily treating dogs, cats and small pets by appointment. We specialize in comprehensive medical, surgical and dental care, offering a wide-range of services from routine wellness visits to surgery, radiology, nutritional counseling and more!

Because of the shorter lifespan of our pets, we stress the importance of an annual physical examination. Thorough check-ups and preventive care can help alleviate serious health problems while extending your pet’s lifespan. We offer a wide range of veterinary services to keep your companions feeling their best. Please learn more about each of these veterinary services below.

We believe that preventative care sets the framework for a long and happy life, so we encourage you to visit us regularly for general wellness appointments. Accordingly, we encourage dogs to visit us for routine evaluations a minimum of twice (once) a year, and cats at least once annually. Our general wellness exams help to prevent serious issues like heart disease, dental issues, arthritis, diabetes and more. We encourage you to schedule your next appointment with us today so we can keep your pet’s tail wagging long into the future!

Dental health and hygiene are surprisingly significant indicators of your pet’s overall health. While under your care, we recommend both administering dental chews for your pet and regularly brushing their teeth. During a routine dental examination with us, we can also complete a deep cleaning, and work to prevent future issues like infection, loose teeth, abscess and more issues which can become serious over time if left untreated.

Pets that age commonly experience chronic pain related to arthritis. Chronic pain can also be experienced after an injury, which requires attention and rehabilitation practices to correct. If in fact you notice any limited mobility in your pet, including limping or hiding symptoms, we encourage you to get in touch with us as soon as possible. We can offer a course of action tailored to your pet’s injury, to ensure they reach optimal health and comfort as soon as possible.

It’s important to ensure your pet is up-to-date on all recommend vaccinations. Vaccination needs are different for each pet and can be impacted by a variety of factors including age, geographic location and more. We’ll review the health history of your pet, look closely for any symptoms and develop a vaccination protocol that’s tailored directly to the needs of your pet. Having a pet that is caught up on vaccinations can prevent illness, while boosting health and happiness through seasonal and environmental changes that may otherwise adversely impact the wellness of your pet.

Working in conjunction with our local partner, Central Hospital for Veterinary Medicine, we are prepared to schedule X-rays for your pet, which are a crucial diagnostic tool that can ultimately boost our ability to gain critical insights into the health and wellness of your pet. We also offer CT scans and ultrasound services to better understand the health of your pet from head to tail. When a physical examination, routine bloodwork and urinalysis prove insufficient to receive the diagnostic insights we need, radiographs through our partner Central Hospital for Veterinary Medicine can often provide the missing piece of the puzzle.

Our in-house laboratory allows us to run tests and analysis on-site, significantly reducing the turnaround time required to process important samples. We also have use of Idexx Laboratories, a widely recognized and respected destination for analysis and the use of specific tests that require more complicated review. When you visit us at Veterinary Associates of North Branford, you gain access to our expertise and the expertise of our veterinary partners, including Idexx Laboratories and Central Hospital for Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Osorio and Dr. Almo have decades of combined experience performing soft tissue surgery on dogs and cats. Our state-of-the-art equipment and soft touch give us total confidence while performing procedures like spays, neuters and declawing with the absolute minimum amount of pain or discomfort in your pet. If your pet has not been spayed or neutered, let us know and we can talk about the benefits of these procedures during your next appointment!

Tragically, thousands of pets are lost or stolen each year. However, many of these instances are actually preventable with the right approach, which involves microchipping. A microchip is fitted painlessly into your pet and is actually smaller than a grain of rice. After it’s implanted, your pet is then registered in a national database which is prepared to track your pet if for any reason they ever become lost or missing. This has saved many pet owners from heartache and is a highly-recommended preventative practice encouraged by our entire veterinary team at Veterinary Associates of North Branford. If you’re considering microchipping your pet, but have any questions or comments, we encourage you to reach out to us!
